"Exposition universelle de Rome", Commissariat general de l'Exposition MCMXXXIX - AN XVII E.F. / 'Universal Exhibition of Rome' of 1942. A limited edition with a colophon at the end of the book. Only 2650 copies issued. In French. Paganini characters. Printing ~ G.Chiappini, Livorno; Paper~ Milani, Fabriano. Features a Benito Mussolini facsimile in Italian (page 9/10) . Quarto format; 26 x 32cm; 90 pp., printed on heavy paper with wide margins. This book presenting the project for the Universal Exhibition, Rome 1942, under the theme 'Olimpiade delle Civilità'. The 'Esposizione Universale Roma' (EUR, originally called E42) was started in 1935 by Benito Mussolini and planned to open in 1942 to celebrate twenty years of Fascism. In urban planning terms, E42 was designed to direct the expansion of the city towards the south-west, connecting it to the sea. The planned exhibition never took place due to World War II. Only small part was actually build and can still be seen in Rome. Condition: excellent for its age; Mussolini's photo (page 7/8) is missing. No markings; clean and bright pages.
