RUSAKOV NU POGODI RUSSIAN LILAC STILL LIFE OIL PAINTING
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are pleased to offer this week, from an outstanding private collection, a scarce original vintage 1987 Listed Russian Artist Svetozar Rusakov Lilacs Still Life Oil on cardboard Painting. Artist's Signed on down right corner Rusakov and dated '87. Svetozar Rusakov is a notable artist, one of the creators of the legendary animated cartoon 'Nu, pogodi!'.
Historical Reference: Svetozar Rusakov (1923 - 2006) is a prominent figure in the Soviet cartoon-making. For all Russians, his name will always be linked with the 'Nu, Pogodi' (Just You Wait!) cartoon series. It was Svetozar Rusakov who drew the Wolf and the Hare for the legendary TV series that every kid born in the Soviet Union has seen.
Svetozar Rusakov started drawing at school. His skills proved useful when he was sent to the WWII front in 1943 where he made sketches of fighting plots. When the young man went to Moscow in 1944, application deadline for all arts colleges had passed, and he applied for admission at an applied arts college. A few years later, Rusakov went on to the cinema college which paved his the way to cartoons.
The artist has quite a number of dazzling cartoons to his name, but it was Nu, Pogodi! that won his all-Russian fame.
In an interview, Rusakov recollected how he created the image of the Wolf in Nu, Pogodi. He was lining up for a movie show in 1941 when a man butted in in front him, elbowing everyone aside. “Gentleman, where are you going?” Svetozar Rusakov asked him. “Gentleman? Do I look like one? How could you dare to call me a gentleman?!” the thug said and went for Rusakov.
In 1986, Svetozar Rusakov was awarded the Soviet State Prize for creating the image of the Wolf, the country’s most famous hooligan.
